ENVIRONMENT

On the way to the beach, the Psarantonis open-air theatre (built in ancient Greek architecture style) is the canter of cultural life in Kalypso. In summer, evening shows organized by our group of animators, as well as theatrical plays, dance performances and Cretan music nights (often with Psarantonis himself!) take place in this open-air theatre.

At night, the Disco is the local hot spot in Kalypso. Our guests can dance all night to the rhythm of Greek and international hits in an area surrounded by the tall fjords – you can rock to the rocks!

Next to the theatre there is a ping-pong table, a football table and a Fitness Room. The volleyball court is between the pool and the open-air theatre. It is a perfect chance to train, play with your friends and family or take part in a match organized by our entertainment group.

The effect of the warm clear sea water has been proven beneficial in cardiovascular conditions, respiratory, dermatological problems, etc. It is also particularly effective in musculoskeletal diseases, such as pains and spasms, neck syndrome, back pains, arthritis, rheumatism. It improves circulation, helps detoxification, stimulates metabolism and strengthens our immune system.
It plays a large, very important role in dealing with the “modern diseases” of our time: stress, overwork, poor diet, air pollution and mild depression. Experts argue that a sense of relaxation, rejuvenation and well-being enlivens both the body as well as the soul and spirit.
The use of hot treatments should be avoided in severe circulatory problems of the lower limbs, such as thrombosis and phlebitis.

AESTHETIC AND THERMAL MEDICINE BULLETIN
Hydro-massage in clear warm seawater, offers the skin hydration and nourishment as well as a special feeling of rejuvenation. The products of the sea (seaweed, mud, etc.) help to increase the metabolism of the cells, resulting in more burning in the body. The skin is oxygenated, absorbs all the nutrients and is rejuvenated. This results in weight loss, cellulite fighting and skin tightening.
At the CRETAN ZEUS aesthetic and thermal medicine centre, experienced professionals offer body (or face, depending on the case) application with specially processed mixtures of seaweed, marine sediments and salts, while we often add drops of essential oils (aromatherapy) to enhance the lipolytic properties of seaweed in the treatment of cellulite, local fat, slimming, tightening and hydration of the skin. It also shows a spectacular improvement in the problem of cellulite, in the treatment of aging, in proper and deep exfoliation, relaxes and rejuvenates the body, the face and the spirit, offering a soft and hydrated skin. It improves blood circulation and detoxifies the body, while at the same time opening the pores so that nutrients can penetrate deeply.
The application is done on a disposable plastic sheet with which we wrap the body and then the person lies down in a special thermotherapeutic thalassotherapy bag, whose temperature gradually increases to the thermotherapeutic limits of 45ο C where it remains for 25 to 30 minutes.
This is followed by a hot shower to remove the remains of the seaweed, without losing the desired hyperemia, while immediately afterwards we perform lymphatic hand massage or full-body relaxing massage (anti-stress massage), using cosmetic products and essential oils, always in combination so as to enhance the therapeutic effect.
The Lymphatic Massage helps to quickly and effectively detoxify the body, improve blood circulation, rejuvenate the skin, reduce cellulite, lose points and thus lose weight!

“The effect of the warm, clear sea water on the human body is a complementary treatment to the healing medicine.”
The positive biological effect of the climate and the marine environment has a stimulating effect on all functions of the human body through solar radiation, ozone, iodine, ionization of the atmosphere and sea baths. The marine climate also has a soothing effect due to the relative stability of the temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure.
In this environment, the effect of seawater on the human body implies only the use of untreated seawater, which can be heated to favour its absorption by the open pores of the skin.
This mechanism is based on the fact that the seawater that has been recently pumped from the sea is heated to a temperature of 32-35ο C and this activates negative ions, which penetrate the body through the skin, carrying the vital elements of the sea to each organ. In addition, our skin is negatively charged, but the deeper layer of the skin is positively charged so that the electrolytic current is directed from the negative to the positive direction. Initially the negative ions move through the epidermis to the dermis, where they are taken up by the capillaries, and then carried to the blood and through the blood to the other organs.
This healing process causes weight loss by activating the mechanism of fat dissolution, stimulating the muscles and skin while helping to treat cellulite and phlebitis and rebuilding the skin by restoring and removing dead cells. In addition, it activates the circulation of lymphatic fluids, enhances the absorption of various substances through the skin, detoxifies and provides essential minerals to the body, removing swelling and toxins.
Furthermore, it increases respiratory capacity, improves uric acid excretion and blood pressure in hypotensive individuals, while it does not affect the blood pressure of people with normal blood pressure. The time required for the completion of the thalassotherapy mechanism, so that the active elements of seawater can fully penetrate the human body, is at least 20 minutes, which is recommended as the minimum time for people to stay in seawater pools.

In Southern Crete, in the crystal clear waters of the Libyan Sea, there is truly incredible marine life.
For many years, professional divers have organized trips in this area of the Mediterranean Sea.
Kalypso Rock’s Palace Dive Center operates legally and has business license and insurance required by law. Situated at Karavos beach in South Crete, a natural park surrounded by hanging rocks making it a private secluded bay in the Central Mediterranean, it is ideal for underwater activities when the weather is fine. The facilities of Kalypso Cretan Village 4* Resort and Spa meet the diver’s needs.
In the nearby area of Kalypso, the coastal holiday resort of Plakias (south of Rethymnon) provides high-standards of service to all guests. Water sport activities have become popular and experienced divers are always impressed by the underwater world of South Crete.
Kalypso Rock’s Palace Dive Center has developed a Discover Scuba diving/Snorkeling Programme. We offer experienced divers various dive tours and we organise boat trips (by fully-equipped boat with diving license) to explore the Libyan Sea, the bottom of the sea, the caves, the rich diversity of fauna and flora.
The diving courses are followed by guided dive trips to the fjords.
Divers get a certificate of attendance and underwater photos taken from a professional photographer.

Kalypso Rock Climbing
Kalypso is a very particular place and one the characteristics of this place are the rocks that embrace the whole area. In the last years, the management of Kalypso Cretan Village Resort & Spa 4* in cooperation with some of the best rock climbers in Greece have created and organized this special activity inside the facilities of the hotel, which is something unique in Crete.
The climbing routes in Kalypso have different levels of difficulty and are appropriate for both beginners and experts. The guests can use these routes for free and can enjoy a special experience combined with a unique view at the Libyan sea.
Passionates of rock climbing have various options in the wider area of Plakias, since this is a well-organized activity in this part of Crete. Paligremnos rock climbing routes, in the imposing vertical rock in Plakias, are also very popular and attract many fans of this activity every year. The climbing routes of Agii Saranda, very close to Kalypso, complete a great variety for the lovers of this sport in the area of Plakias.

Mountain Bicyling
Mountain bicycling is combined with the particularity of Kalypso and the wider area of Plakias with the wonderful beaches as long as the imposing mountains. Guests can supply their mountain bicycles from Kalypso Cretan Village Resort & Spa 4* and take a tour, as is the following around Kalypso and the wider area of Plakias.

Trekking
The plethora of beautiful beaches both at Kalypso and around it has lead to great tourist development in the whole area. However, it is only these beaches which attract visitors. Above Plakias, the Kotsifou gorge, traversed by car, is very imposing with its narrow entrance from the north. Further east, the road again passes through the majestic Kourtaliotiko gorge. The river formed by the waters of the Kourtaliotis and known as Megalos Potamos, then flow through a little gorge amidst numerous Theophrastus’ palm trees; its mouth on the beach constitutes one of the most important natural beauty spots on Crete. In the lovely villages of the area, most of which have tourist facilities, there are a number of Byzantine churches. The most important religious monument in the region is the Monastery of Preveli, or Piso Moni as it is called, although a stop at the old monastery, a little before it, is compelling. The enjoyable mild climate, specially during may, June, September and October with wide range of colours from 950 kinds of flowers, herbs and other plants in nature, surrounded from the blue colour of sky and sea, make somebody to walk to cross this paradise through selected routes, and result is to revitalizing his self.

River Hiking
We cross small rivers while hiking. You need to swim well and be in good shape.
Equipment: hiking shoes to protect your ankles, neoprene socks, waterproof backpack, helmet, knee braces and elbow support, a 20 m safety rope and sunglasses.
HIKING TRAILS:
1) It starts from Preveli Bridge (Megas Potamos – Great River). There is free transfer for Kalypso Cretan Village Resort & Spa guests, 10’ from Kalypso. Through Preveli Gorge and an exotic palm grove, we reach the wonderful beach “Preveli Lake” in 3-4 hours. You’ll find imposing tropical nature.
Back to PLAKIAS by little ship or car.
2) It starts from the village of Mixorouma. 20’ from Kalypso. We cross a river surrounded by native plants and we pass through old abandoned watermills, churches and the village itself.

ABSEILING
For abseiling we use rock climbing equipment.
Although it seems a simple sport to do, it needs the right training, preparation and help from a professional climber. It certainly needs concentration and inner balance but it is a fun challenge that activates intense emotions.
It demands both physical and mental health.

Underwater Wedding
KALYPSO ROCK’S PALACE Dive Center is proud to have organized the first two underwater weddings in Greece. Even if this is a trend in many countries, underwater weddings are not quite developed in Greece yet, which made the successful organization of these weddings even more important. These weddings combine extraordinary scenery – the couples exchange their vows of eternal love in the beautiful bottom of Southern Crete Sea – with traditional Cretan style weddings including food and music.
The first underwater wedding took place in May 2014 when the Russian couple, Renat and Maria, decided to do something special for the more important day of their life. Even if the 28-year-olds were not specialists in diving, they took a few lessons and they were ready to make their dream come true.
The second wedding under the sea was held in October 2014, when Zachara from South Africa and Renata from Hungary also chose this place to exchange their vows. Zachara and Renata had a passion for scuba diving and the idea of a ceremony in the bottom of the sea, under the sound of Cretan lyra, the famous traditional instrument, was ideal.

Dimitra Hotel and Apartments

Dimitra Hotel and Apartments is located in Kokkini Hani – Heraklion Crete and operating since 1981.So far, we are constantly striving to keep our services and our facilities at a level sufficient to meet the demands of the modern customer.

From the welcome to your departure, you will feel the friendly atmosphere of our family. Our goal is your personal service, relaxation and comfort.

Dimitra Hotel & Apartments is a long run family establishment, situated in the relaxing seaside village of Kokkini Hani (also known under the name Hani Kokkini or Kokkini Chani or Vathianos Kampos).

The complex consists of two apartment buildings and a hotel building. Elevator is available at the hotel building.

The hotel building houses the reception, where information and other services are provided such as how to get a safety box, a baby cot or how to use the in-room air conditioning and of course how to get around and what to do in Crete. Coffee bar is located at the same building, where you can enjoy several cocktails, other drinks and snacks. Buffet style breakfast is served every morning from 08:00′ – 10:00′.

Two of the three buildings have an immediate exit to the pool area where you can enjoy a swim if you prefer to stay away from the beach. Children’s play area is also provided next to the pool, specially catering for family needs.

The hotel building consists of twenty-three double and triple rooms with a choice of twin or double beds. The rooms are located at the ground, first and second floor.

The apartment buildings consists of eleven self catering apartments, spread in 2 buildings.
The first building (next to the pool area) consist of 8 apartments (standard apartments) on ground first and second floor.
The second building (above Pan Asia restaurant) consist of 3 apartments (superior apartments) all on the first floor.

Each apartment can accommodate from two up to four people. The 4th person can use sofa, proper or spare bed.
The apartments are located at ground, first and second floor.

Another interesting fact is, that the complex is built directly adjacent to an archaeological site dated from the 17th century BC, a well preserved Minoan Villa, called the Palace of Niros which was excavated in 1918.

Location
Kokkini Hani is a coastal village with about 1.200 inhabitants, 13 km east of Heraklion on the old main road to Agios Nikolaos. All summer season, regular public bus service connects the village with Heraklion (city-airport-port), Agios Nikolaos, Malia or Chersonissos. The closest bus stop is placed 100 m. away from the hotel. The island’s main highway can be easily accessed from the hotel, making it an ideal base for discovering the entire island by car.

Facilities
There is a wide range of tourist and other facilities provided in Kokkini Hani, such us shops, taverns, restaurants, bars, super markets, car and bike rentals, sports, water sports, tourist agents, banking services, medical center etc most of them within a walking distance.
Next to Dimitra Hotel, you can find our family owned restaurant, called Pan Asia, where you can enjoy Chinese and Thai cooking as well as original Japanese sushi.
Main beaches are fully organized and provide all the amenities that a tourist might be looking for. There are also many smaller beaches in coves around the area, for those who prefer a more secluded place. Opposite to Kokkini Hani, there is a small islet called Dia.

Archaeological interest
On the south side of the road, next to Dimitra Hotel, there is a well preserved Minoan Villa called the Palace of Niros, which is open to the public. It dates from the 17th century BC and it is thought that it was the residence of an important governor or high priest. There were various objects found at the site such as double axes, pots, amphorae and more.
